A ONE-PERSON REVOLUTION
IN AMERICA
SEE the picture of the people protesting Civil Defense Air Raid Drills in the early years. READ some of what Ammon had to say... LOOK at more propaganda from peace-minded folk To paraphrase Utah Phillips:
Ammon Hennacy was a
Catholic anarchist pacifist, vegetarian, draft resister in two world wars, tax resister, one-person revolution in America--and that about covers it.

In 1949, on Thanksgiving Day Ammon Hennacy wrote:
LOVE without COURAGE and WISDOM is sentimentality,
as with the ordinary church member.
COURAGE without LOVE and WISDOM is foolhardiness,
as with the ordinary soldier.
WISDOM without LOVE and COURAGE is cowardice,
as with the ordinary intellectual.
Therefore one with LOVE, COURAGE, and WISDOM
is one in a million who moves the world,
as with JESUS, BUDDHA, and GANDHI.

Born in 1893, Ammon Hennacy was a socialist and atheist in his youth; he embraced freedom of speech and thought when they were still mainstream values in North America. Due to his anti-capitalist agitation he was imprisoned during the First World War where he learned about the revolution of the heart in solitary confinement. Having gained this wisdom and ability to love his enemy, Ammon began to travel the U.S. and Canada, teaching and pushing nonviolence and love.
He worked tirelessly as a proponent of pacifism, anarchism, and the Sermon on the Mount. As a true personalist, Hennacy took direct action, picketed, fasted, and spoke to countless people wherever and whenever he could. Ammon joined the Catholic Worker Movement when he discovered that the Worker had similar values to his. He practiced what he preached, and through his wit, charm, courage, love, and wisdom, created friends out of enemies.
